Before I continue with my Manila Escapades, magkukwento muna ako ng mga nangyayari dito sa Batchoy Republic.
"Mamayang gabi, kailangan mag ball room ulit tayo. Namimiss ko yun eh. Lalo na yung swing."
"Sige ba, walang problema. Mamaya it is.
" Oo nga, bakit ba ayaw mo mag Tango, Luis."
Such a slow romantic dance... Sheeeshh!
Meanwhile...
Nag uusap kami ni YJ sa Ym. Uy nag ra rhyme. Tinatanong ko sya kung ok yung design na naiisip ko. since mag bi-big 3-Oh na ako, I decided na icommemorate sya by getting a tattoo on my right chest. Phoenix. A reminder for me na makailang ulit man akong nasunog at naabo na, babangon at babangon ulit ako at muling makakabawi!
Kahapon, ibinalik ko ang aking belly ring. Nagpa lagay na ako nito last year kaso, manipis ang pag kakatuhog kaya one time na naliligo ako at nag iiscrub ay napigtal sya. Sakit sakit kaya nun! Pinalagyan ko ulit and this time, pinakapalan ko na ang pagkakatusok. Surprisingly, hindi sya kasing sakit ng dati. Siguro nga dahil makapal ang pagkakatusok, unlike last time na manipis lang. Ayoko pang kunan ng picture muna kasi mamula mula pa.
I also did some research and finally got another piercing. Dahil wala naman sigurong shop na tatanggap gumawa nun, at dyahe naman, I did it myself.
More importantly... Kriminal na ako. Hehehehe
Reckless Imprudence Resulting to Damage to Property ang kaso.
Nung inaayos na sa pulis, pinababalik kami the next day with the estimates and necessary documents. Ayaw nyang pumayag kasi taga Guimbal pa daw sya at mahihirapan siyang i check ang taxi nya araw araw. In two days time, ayos na yun. Ayaw nya pa ring pumayag. Natawa nga pati ang pulis na umaareglo. Sabi nya.
Yun na yun. at ngayon naka warrant ako at dadakpin ng pulis any moment from now. Hehehehehe.
Dalawang 2x2. Para sa pyansa, para matapos na. After that, diretcho ka na sa abugado mo." Tekitext ng mamang lespu.
"Dun na lang. May mga nagpipicture naman dun di ba. Tapos, di na ako kukuha ng abugado. Ala akong pera. May PAO naman eh. Saka mag pa file pa dapat ng motion to reduce bail.
Masaya to! Ang Batchoy Boi ay isa nang Suspected Criminal under Warrant of Arrest!
Scared!
Not!
Hehehehehehe

Mula Silya Hanggang Kama

Matangkad, maputi, makinis, matipuno at gwapong lalaki.
"Luis?

Go lang ng go.

Senate Sessions
A trip to Manila would not be complete and would be an utter waste if I do not set a Senate Session.
We the Honorable Senators must have a coffee session!
Our friendship started in College. I was an experienced debater and have been team captain of winning debating teams, as well as coached some, and they were younger inexperienced ones struggling with a class project.
It was at a coffee shop I frequent. I was doing a mind unfreeze and a breather from a long day of press work for the publication when I noticed their group. How could you not notice them when they were bickering and audibly arguing with each other on some highly important matter that would spell catastrophe if not resolved soonest? Irritated as I was, I calmly took a puff, lifted my mug from the table, stood up and approached the group. It did help that the group was composed mostly of girlalettes. With a calm voice I spoke.
"Hi. I overheard you discussing debate proposition. Since you have already disturbed what I was looking forward to be a quiet afternoon, may I join your table, and perhaps, give you pointers or two?" With out waiting for a response, I grabbed an empty chair, sat down, put my coffee mug on the table and said, "You see, it's like this... whats your debate proposition again?"
I informally coached their team, regularly meeting at the coffee shop, and they managed to trump all their opposing teams. They had brilliant minds and great argumentation skills. They just needed to pull themselves together and steer towards a common goal, and not bicker against each other within the team. That started a friendship that went beyond the rudiments of argumentation and debate, politics, love, spirituality and the likes. Since our friendship started with something as political as a discussion about the abolition of the pork barrel, it couldn't be helped when we started calling each other "Your Honor." Hence, the Senate was born.
Years later, most of the Senators have found employment in the City of Man, so when I was in Manila, the Senate Convened.

After the Senate Session, Senator Coseteng took me to Palawan 2 Bar. Senator Legarda begged off since she is swamped with work and has a 'jealous' boyfriend (sheessh!).

With Senator Coseteng at Palawan 2It was so much fun! I immensely enjoyed the impersonators and their funtabulous numbers.

What happened when the show was over seemed to be the highlight of this bar. People started undressing, uhmmm I mean dancing. The show starts way past midnight and ends by the small hours of the morning, so people where a bit more anxious to get hooked before the sun rises and reveal their Cullenish Foundations and shinning shimmering splendid body glitters. The scene shocked my provincial sensibilitites (chos!) Oh well... If you would ask if the Batchoy Boi got hooked up, well... ahem... ask the chubby guy on the far lower left of the picture. He said he's a chef, so, surely, we cooked up something scrumptuous.

Oh well... How could I resist a chubby chinito bumping and grinding and throwing suggestive winks at me? Marupok ako. Besides, I went to Manila to have a pre birthday bash didn't I? Can't help it if he wanted to blow my candle, can I?

Coz You Gotta Have Faith

I woke up too late for Thursday Nights. I intended to continue telling my Manila tales, but I checked my emails and stuff first, and I stumbled upon this test. It is supposed to measure your personal beliefs and matches it through percentages with known belief systems. I am not big on religion and religiosity and what is important for me is spirituality, so I do not consider one singular religion to define or label my faith. For the longest time though, I have associated myself and even called myself a Catholic Wiccan Bahai. Catholic by birth and tradition, Wiccan by practice and Bahai by intellectual convictions. I was aghast to read in the links that the Bahai faith does not condone homosexuality and that they believe in reformatory measures to 'straighten up' gays. Here is a snippet from religioustolerance.org. It was a case of foot in mouth disease for me. Then again, never too late.
The Baha'i Faith teaches beliefs about homosexuality that are quite similar to those of many conservative religions. They teach that:
| The only acceptable form of sexual expression is between a one man and one woman after marriage. | |
| Homosexual feelings and behavior are improper, and in opposition to God's plan for humanity. | |
| Homosexuality as a disability for the individual to overcome. Through prayer, medical treatment, counseling, and much personal effort, they believe that a homosexual can become "straight." | |
| Unless gays or lesbians can convert their sexual orientation to bisexuality or heterosexuality, and enter a marriage with a person of the opposite gender, they are expected to remain celibate. |
Naloka naman ako sa clincher dun about conversion to bisexuality. May ganun? Well, it is official. I now dissociate myself from the Bahai faith. Too bad. I always thought it was perfect for me since it is a 'thinking' faith. I hope they would reconsider. Oh well. Getting back to the test, results showed that I was tops NeoPagan, and bottoms Catholic. That does say a lot!
Here's my result:
| 1. | Neo-Pagan (100%) |
| 2. | New Age (95%) |
| 3. | Unitarian Universalism (93%) |
| 4. | Mahayana Buddhism (91%) |
| 5. | New Thought (85%) |
| 6. | Hinduism (83%) |
| 7. | Liberal Quakers (82%) |
| 8. | Reform Judaism (78%) |
| 9. | Scientology (75%) |
| 10. | Baha'i Faith (72%) |
| 11. | Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (69%) |
| 12. | Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (69%) |
| 13. | Jainism (65%) |
| 14. | Theravada Buddhism (63%) |
| 15. | Taoism (60%) |
| 16. | Orthodox Judaism (59%) |
| 17. | Orthodox Quaker (57%) |
| 18. | Sikhism (57%) |
| 19. | Islam (54%) |
| 20. | Secular Humanism (52%) |
| 21. | Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (34%) |
| 22. | Nontheist (33%) |
| 23. | Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (32%) |
| 24. | Seventh Day Adventist (30%) |
| 25. | Jehovah's Witness (21%) |
| 26. | Eastern Orthodox (19%) |
| 27. | Roman Catholic (19%) |
Interesting discovery! If you wanna take the test yourself, click here.
Now tell me...
How's your faith these days, father?
And to keep things light, here's a song about faith... Enjoy... Manila Stories from the Batchoyan resume later

Charmita, my "Sanity"
Ours was an instant friendship, just add yosi, bond.
I met her at the Dean's Office of the College of Law four years ago. A look at each other and a shared 'taray' slap back for the enlisting faculty was all it took, and we were bonded like stamp to a letter and birds of a feather.
"Birds of the same feathers fly together in V formation." -Charmita
"Birds of the same flock feathers together." -Luis
To enumerate the things we share in common will easily become a long winding list. To enumerate the differences we have will produce the same effect. We are each others sanity in the madness that is law school, and life, per se! To fall in love with each other is to commit a sacrilege to a higher level soul bond we share. When she got pregnant with Cherish Naysha, we calmly and caffeinatedly discussed about how the kid will bear my surname. Upon careful discussion however, we realized that it we won't be the kid or Charm's reputation that would be saved, but would actually let the effin' sperm donor be scot-free. That should not happen. Besides, no reputation was besmirched to date.
When she dropped out of law school to work in Manila, a part of me died. My sanity fled from me for a moment, but we knew we had to weather this one. This, too, shall pass. So every chance we can get to catch up on each other's madness, we grab.
Our conversations range from topics as mundane as the ten thousand uses of a chewing gum to the highly technical discussion of how airline companies, being a public conveyance, should be put under governmental regulations, or how exactly should child support be computed as to be responsive and yet guarded against scheming and unscrupulous 'serial mothers.' With just a look, we are able to convey to each other messages such as, "I NEED MY F@CKING KOFI NOW NA!!!
We play good cop, bad cop most of the time. When she flares at others I act as regulator and vice versa. Most fun of them all is when she and I flare together simultaneously, and when that happens, boy, do make sure to give us what we want, and fast, plus a hot towel and a back rub! =)
Last time I was in Manila to grab me my Palanca, she was my host and my plus one for the night. By then we discussed how I should give working in Manila a try. I never considered working there as an option. I always said that if made to choose between a job in Manila that would pay Php25,000 and one in Iloilo that would only pay me Php8,000, I'd grab the Iloilo offer without any hesitation whatsoever. Not until Charm and I talked about living, working, and yes, even dating/loving in the City of Man. 72 hours later, and being with her all those hours, my logic did not seem water or air tight as it was before. I now actually look forward to giving it a try. As long as we live together and stay stuck with each other, I feel I can brave the Metro. It's not that I am crowd shy or Metrophobic. It's just that I do not want to sweat it when I can have it easier. It's my provincial sensibilities. I long for my slow walks, lazy afternoons and random musings. To which she answered-that's exactly why you should try it out here; it would be fun to fill our provincial sensibilities together and find quick get aways together. Sound logic I should say! When I told this reason to Mike, another friend from Manila, he also countered by saying "No, you do not live in the province, nor a Promdi; it is the province that lives in you."
This visit to Manila further bolstered the plans. There would be a chance for a go-see when I review for the Bar Exams next year. We made plans. She'd look for a place, she'd move in with me while I'm drowning in Legal Stew, she'd find me a side job, and when the exam is over, I will find a semi permanent employment to tide me over and keep me sane from the dementing wait for the results. Sounds good to me! We have it down pat, with some minor details like shared dsl connectivity, housekeeping schedules, and periodic hie aways. I could not even register a proper objection when she started discussing which review center I'd enroll at.
One fine morning, after her shift, I picked her up in Ortigas. We were walking in search of our morning brew, and she pointed out to a condo building being constructed, saying "Luis, mabakal ta ni soon ho!" (Luis, let's get one of these very soon.) Without skipping a beat I answered "Huo ah!" (Surely!) And we both guffawed at how, we make buying a condo as casual as buying Hot Americano, Venti in Starbucks!
If there is one thing that softens the harshness and tames the savagery of Manila, it would be Charm and being with her. Hours after being back in the Batchoy Republic, I already miss her terribly. There are times when I would think how she fares in the jungles of Manila. Then again, two words... till then!

AHLABIA and AHMISHA Charmita.

Then again, two words... till then!

Legally Bond! Friendship Bond!
DO not forget that the next time I'm around, we hit Ongpin to pig out and hunt for my ever elusive Chubby Chinito!AHLABIA and AHMISHA Charmita.

Back to your Embrace

I have had too much of big Metropolitan Manila. I have wandered far and wide, and I am tired.
I seek comfort in your arms. The warmth of your embrace, and the familiarity in your caresses.
Oh to be back here where I should be.
Welcome me back to your Embraces Iloilo.
A sip of coffee, though, non designer but bittersweet as well.
A slurp of batchoy; heaven in a bowl.
And of course... the laughter of friends...
There will be stories, for sure! There will be...
For now, a long peaceful sleep in your loving arms, with my head upon your chest.
When darkness falls, the street calls to me, and there will be Thursnights with the Thursday Group...
Welcome me back, Iloilo... Back to your embrace!
Chos! Parang ang tagal tagal ko nawala no?
